- New blog
In late 2020, I took a break from social media. I also took a break from writing and from doing any significant engineering projects, but I didn’t take a break from learning. I wish I’d tracked those learnings here – there’d be more blog posts to fill up the blank spaces. The posts older than this one are those I’ve been able to recover from my old blog, which I lost years ago after failing to properly back it up.
I feel like writing again, so expect to see new posts now. I think I have a process now that will make it easier to write. I’m using Jekyll and Markdown, and a CI/CD process that uses GitHub Actions to automatically deploy my blog to S3 when I update it. The theme for this blog was originally designed by Manuel Mazzuola, but I’ve modified it a bit. (Side note: I’m using DALL-E 2 to create header images for these posts.)
While some people (like fellow Dallasite, John Carmack) push forward and try to solve hard things like AGI, I’m going backwards: I’m fascinated with learning about old tech, how things were done before we got all these modern abstractions. I want to dive deep into bare metal programming, so there will likely be posts on X86 Assembly, ARM Assembly, Rust, and even some BASIC before I get back to doing the machine learning work I was doing a couple of years ago. It’ll all tie together in the end, anyway.
